5784 OPHIR PALM PLAYWRITING CONTEST

So much of Jewish tradition finds its origins in the idea of "telling sacred stories so our children will know..." Jewish theatre has a rich and diverse history that we strive to explore and proliferate, and it is the mission of SHMA Theatre to foster a platform that continues to add to the canon of Jewish theatre content as a celebration of Judaism and a commitment to continuing the tradition of telling these stories for generations to come.
It is our honor to host an annual competition for Jewish Playwrighting. The inaugural contest will be the inauguration of our Bet Season which begins after Rosh Hoshana in Gregorian Calendar 2023. The Ophir Prize and $1000 monetary award will go to the author of the winning original script of qualifying Jewish content. The contest is open to playwrights of any ethnic cultural or religious affiliation. Contest rules will be posted here in December of 2023, at which time submissions will be accepted for consideration through April of 2024. The inaugural Ophir Prize (or Fifi) will be announced on May 1st and, and the winning play will enjoy a Salon Reading in June of 2024.
Check back on Sunday, December 3, 2024 for Contest rules and submission guidelines.
